ICAR-Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture (ICAR-CIBA) celebrates the 77th Republic Day with zeal, honour and respect. Dr Kuldeep K Lal, Director and the heads of regional centres unfurled the Tri-colour National Flag respectively at the headquarters, experimental station and the regional centres. The director in his republic day address to the scientists and staff highlighted the significant achievements made by the institute in technology development and transfer in supporting the aquaculture industry and the coastal families in the form of aquaculture-based livelihood development in coastal region. It is important that the technology-based business models need to be developed for upscaling them, he added. The societal development interventions undertaken to validate our technologies across the country are impressive, however, they are to be documented with scientific assessments and publications for their impact. The technologies are to be appropriately worded and their IPRs should be protected with aptly so that the ownership is not diluted for ever. The flagship programmes like the Super Intensive Precision Natural shrimp farming, Genetic Improvement Programme for native white shrimp (Penaeus indicus), Feed technologies, shrimp integrated with seaweed, shrimp insurance products, societal development through fin fish farming technologies are in right track and need to be improved as per the field requirements. He underscored that the theme of this year’s Republic Day is “150 Years of Vande Mataram” commemorating the national song penned by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay during the freedom struggle and motivated the team CIBA to contribute for the nation building and Viksit Bharat.  The director conveyed his Republic Day greetings and best wishes to the scientists and staff of CIBA and their families present in the at the headquarters, experimental station and the regional centres.
