ICAR-Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture (ICAR-CIBA) and its Regional Centres respectively at Kakdwip, West Bengal and Navsari Gujarat celebrated the National Farmers Day – 2025 with respect and commitment on 23rd December, 2025. About 303 participants (88 Female and 215 Male) attended the event. The National Farmers Day is an annual event celebrated to recognize the vital role of the farmers in providing food security to the nation and supporting the nation’s economy. The Kisan Diwas also known as                       National Farmers Day (NFD) is also celebrated to commemorate the birthday of Shri. Chaudhary Charan Singh, Former Prime Minister of India and a dedicated Kisan Leader who has done a yeomen service towards uplifting the farming community. Dr.M.Kailasam, Head, Fish Culture Division and Director-in-Charge delivered the Farmers Day address, wherein he highlighted the role of brackishwater aquaculture in providing nutritious food to the people and contributing substantially for the national economy to the tune of Rs.47,000 crores. Subsequently, the participants were sensitized about the salient aspects of the Viksit Bharat–Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin), or VB‑G RAM G Act-2025 providing 125 days of employment to provide livelihood security to the rural poor by Dr.M.Kumaran, Principal Scientist, CIBA which is the main focus of this year National Fish Farmers Day.

During the occasion Shri. Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Honourable Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and Rural Development, Govt. of India and Shri.Bhagirath Choudhary, Honourable Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare addressed the participants. Shri. Shivraj Singh Chouhan Ji in his address conveyed National Farmers Day greetings to the farming community and underlined the importance of adoption of integrated farming systems with livestock and fisheries to increase the income from farming and for strengthening the resilience of farming against potential natural risks. He also highlighted the special features of the new VB‑G RAM G Act-2025 and informed that the Government of India has allocated Rs.one lakh crore exclusively for its efficient implementation. Dr.C.V.Sairam, Principal Scientist concluded the meeting with his vote of thanks. Dr. M.Kumaran Principal Scientist SSD ICAR CIBA Chennai, Dr.Debasis De, Head, KRC of CIBA and his team and the scientists team of NGRC-CIBA coordinated the events at HQs and the respective centres of CIBA.
