On the occasion of World Soil Day, ICAR-Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture, Chennai organised “Brackishwater Aquaculture Farmers Meet” on “Climate Resilient Aquaculture Technologies” at Pattipulam Village, Chengalpattu District Tamil Nadu on 5th December 2025 under NICRA project. About 80 farmers from the Puthu Nemmelikuppam and Kovalam Villages participated and interacted with the scientific team. Dr. M. Muralidhar, Principal Scientist welcomed the gathering and explained about the importance of world soil day celebration and the current year theme “”Healthy Soils for Healthy Cities”. Senior Scientists, Dr P Kumararaja, Dr N Lalitha, Dr J Raymond Jani Angel and Dr Sandeep KP, and Scientist R Aravind, and Dr. A Nagavel, Chief Technical Officer deliberated on soil and water quality management, health management, crab fattening, Live feeds and shrimp-seaweed integrated farming. Dr. M. Kailasm, HoD, Finfish Culture Division and Director I/c elaborated the institute’s contribution towards brackishwater aquaculture, schemes provided by the central government through different agencies for the upliftment of SCST aquafarmers and adaptation of climate resilient technologies for sustainable brackishwater aquaculture. During the interaction farmers were demonstrated soil sampling protocol and soil quartering process to obtain representative soil samples for analysis. Multi parameter water quality kit was demonstrated for onsite monitoring of water parameters and two kits were distributed to farmers.
