ICAR-CIBA organised the Swachhata Hi Seva event at the Madhavaram Campus, Chennai of the Tamil Nadu Dr. J. Jayalalithaa Fisheries University on 29th September 2026 as part of the  “Swachhata Hi Seva 2026” campaign, being observed from 17th September to 2nd October 2026 with the theme “Swachhata Mein Sahbhag, Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat”. The programme was organized with 53 Bachelor of Fisheries Science (B.F.Sc.) students from the Dr. M.G.R. Fisheries College and Research Institute, Ponneri, Tiruvallur District, Tamil Nadu. The objective was to create awareness on cleanliness, sanitation, responsible waste management, environmental conservation, and sustainable lifestyle practices.

An interactive session was conducted to inculcate the principles of Mission LiFE into their day-to-day lives and to become the responsible ambassadors of cleanliness, sustainable living, and environmental stewardship. The programme also highlighted the role of youth and fisheries professionals in promoting best practices of responsible waste management within their institutions, communities, and coastal environments.

Subsequently, a brainstorming session on “Reduce, Reuse and Recycle (3Rs)” and Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) was conducted. The students actively participated in the discussions and shared their ideas on practical ways to reduce waste generation, reuse materials, promote recycling, conserve natural resources, and adopt environmentally responsible lifestyle practices.

A symbolic Human Chain was organized to sensitize the students to the importance of cleanliness, sanitation, and collective responsibility in maintaining a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment. The activity emphasized that individual participation and community action are essential for achieving the vision of a clean and develop India.

The programme was concluded with a pledge taking on Reduce, Reuse and Recycle, reaffirming the students’ commitment to maintaining cleanliness, minimizing waste, protecting the environment, and adopting sustainable practices as part of their everyday lives.
