The Kakdwip Research Centre (KRC) of ICAR-CIBA organized a Swachh Bharat awareness and cleanliness programme at Kakdwip Sishu Sikshayatan Higher Secondary School, Kakdwip on 30th September, 2026 as part of the Swachhata Pakhwada being organised from 17 September to 2 October, 2026. The programme was organized with the objective of creating awareness among school students and NCC cadets about the importance of cleanliness, proper waste management, and the role of responsible citizens in maintaining a clean and healthy environment. The programme commenced with a short awareness session on the importance of cleanliness, sanitation and scientific waste management. Dr. Debasis De, Head, KRC of ICAR-CIBA, addressed the students and NCC cadets and emphasized the importance of maintaining cleanliness in schools, homes and public places. He highlighted the need for responsible waste disposal and collective participation in keeping the surroundings clean. Shri Pradeep Kumar Pramanik, Headmaster, Kakdwip Sishu Sikshayatan Higher Secondary School, spoke about the importance of maintaining cleanliness within the school premises and emphasized the duties and responsibilities of students as responsible citizens. He encouraged the students and NCC cadets to adopt good sanitation and waste-management practices in their daily lives and to motivate others in their community to follow the same.

Following the awareness session, a cleanliness drive was conducted within the school premises, in which the students and NCC cadets actively participated. The activity provided practical exposure to the importance of maintaining a clean institutional environment and reinforced the message that cleanliness is a collective responsibility. As part of the programme, a quiz competition was organized for the students aiming to enhance their awareness and understanding on cleanliness, sanitation, waste management and environmental awareness. The students from four schools of Kakdwip participated in the competition. The winners of the quiz competition were felicitated. The programme successfully combined awareness, practical participation and knowledge-based activities, thereby reinforcing the objectives of Swachhata Pakhwada and promoting the message of cleanliness, sanitation, environmental responsibility and civic duty among the younger generation. The programme was coordinated by the scientists and staff of Kakdwip Research Centre of CIAR-CIBA, Kakdwip.
