The Navsari Gujarat Research Centre (NGRC), of ICAR-CIBA, conducted a Trainers Training Programme (TTP) on “Recent Advances in Brackishwater Aquaculture” during 21-26 September, 2026 for the Fisheries Officials of the Department of Fisheries, Government of Gujarat (GoG). The six-day training was conducted to strengthen the technical capacity of the field-level fisheries personnel and familiarize them with recent technological developments and sustainable practices in brackishwater aquaculture. Thirteen (13) Senior Assistant Superintendents of Fisheries (SASF) working in various districts of Gujarat participated in the training programme.
The training was imparted by resource persons from ICAR-CIBA Headquarters, NGRC, College of Fisheries Science, Kamdhenu University, Centre of Excellence in Aquaculture and KVK, Anand Agricultural University. A training manual titled “Recent Advances in Brackishwater Aquaculture” was released during the programme as a reference resource for the participants. Dr. M. Jayanthi, Principal Scientist & Head, CCD, ICAR-CIBA, Chennai inaugurated the training and released the course manual.
The programme comprised a balanced blend of expert lectures, practical, field demonstrations, and exposure visits. The major technical areas covered include next-generation shrimp farming, cage farming of brackishwater fishes, integrated fish farming, inland shrimp farming, aquatic animal health management, responsible aquaculture zone planning, soil and water quality management; Nutrition and feed management in brackishwater aquaculture; Indian white shrimp culture and climate resilient aquaculture.
The practical session provided hands-on exposure to aquatic animal disease diagnosis, water and soil quality testing, and feed formulation/preparation. Participants visited the facilities of College of Fisheries Science, Kamdhenu University (KU), Navsari; NGRC Research & Development Farm at Matwad; Centre of Excellence in Aquaculture, KU, Ukai; Mayank Aqua Pvt Ltd – Hatchery, Maroli; Avanti Feeds Pvt Ltd, Valsad; and MPEDA regional office, Valsad, providing exposure to academic, research, demonstration, commercial and regulatory aspects of the aquaculture sector.
The programme concluded on 26 September 2026 with a valedictory session and certificate distribution. Overall, the programme successfully served as a linkage platform between ICAR research institutions and state fisheries departments for capacity building and knowledge exchange.
