On the occasion of World Environment Day, ICAR-Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture organised tree plantation programme along with students and teachers at the Panchayat Primary School, Kovalam, Chengalpattu district, Tamil Nadu on 5th June 2026. Around 50 students, teachers and scientists participated in the programme. CIBA scientists explained about the effect of global warming on climate change such as delayed monsoon, heat wave, sea level rising and its impact on fisheries and aquaculture. Similarly, benefits of afforestation such as ecosystem services like shade, biodiversity maintenance, improved micro-climate and importance of tree plantation in climate change mitigation by carbon sequestration were emphasised. Students were advised to use water and electricity judiciously for reducing the energy consumption and thereby fossil fuel usage to reduce the global warming.
In a similar manner, tree plantation programmes were organized at the Kakdwip Research Centre (KRC), Kakdwip, West Bengal and Navsari Gujarat Research Centre (NGRC), Gujarat.
