Translucent Post Larval Disease (TPD) is an emerging bacterial disease severely affecting shrimp aquaculture industry in China and some South East Asian countries. Farmers in India, particularly in the state Andhra Pradesh, suspected this disease seems to be present in shrimp farms. In response to this, the Government of Andhra Pradesh immediately put an action plan to train the state Government fisheries department officials and strengthen the diagnostic capacity for this disease. Upon the request from Government of Andhra Pradesh, a hands-on training program on “Molecular Diagnosis of Translucent Post larval Disease (TPD) in Shrimp” was organised at ICAR-Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture (CIBA), Chennai during 4th to 8th May 2026. Four Andhra Pradesh state Government officials and four from National Surveillance Program for Aquatic Animal Disease (NSPAAD) centres participated in this training program. Addressing the participants during the concluding session, Director of ICAR-CIBA, Dr. Kuldeep K Lal suggested the participants to fully utilize the knowledge and skill gained in the training session and strengthen their diagnostic capacity. He also suggested the participants to continue disease surveillance in hatcheries and farms including this emerging pathogen. During these five days training programme, participants were trained with both conventional and real time-based PCR methods for the detection of TPD from shrimp and live feed samples. At the end of the program, Director ICAR-CIBA distributed certificates to the participants.
