A six-day training programme on “Seed Production and Farming Technology of Brackishwater Fishes” was conducted at the Kakdwip Research Centre (KRC) of ICAR-CIBA, West Bengal, from 17 to 22 August 2026. The programme was attended by fish hatchery entrepreneurs and students.
The training programme comprised theory and practical classes on hormonal control and reproductive endocrinology of candidate brackishwater finfishes; hormone preparation for induced breeding; broodstock selection and management; induced breeding and larval rearing of Bengal cat Fish (Mystus gulio), live feed production; breeding and seed production of candidate brackishwater ornamental fishes; disease diagnosis; and feed formulation, among other topics. Trainees also received complete hands-on training in hatchery technology for Mystus gulio seed production.
A field visit was organised to a hatchery entrepreneur engaged in commercial seed production of Mystus gulio in South 24 Parganas. At the valedictory programme, a training manual was released and certificates were distributed to the trainees.
Dr Debasis De, Head of KRC was the training Course Director, KRC, ICAR-CIBA, and Mrs Babita Mandal, Scientist, was the Co-ordinator of the training programme.
