The outbreak of corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has been declared as a Public Health Emergency. The Government has imposed country wide lockdown, closed down business activities alongwith restrictions of movement in different phases across the country to prevent its spread. It is essential that the public need to follow the social distancing and other safety measures advocated by the health departments of the Government. As a social responsibility measure, the ICAR-Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture, Chennai has taken up a sensitization programme on COVID-19 among the tribal and Scheduled Caste families of Kannavanthurai, Senjiamman, Kulathumedu tribal villages of Tiruvallur and Kundrakadu, Kovalam village, Chengalpattu districts of Tamil Nadu during 6th and 7th August 2020. As part of the programme milkfish fingerlings and CIBA feeds were distributed to fish farmers to continue their livelihood activity. Moreover, precautionary materials like hand gloves, face mask, sanitizers etc., and essential groceries were distributed to about 40 SC and ST aqua families. This event was undertaken under the CIBA-TSP and CIBA – CPCL CSR project. Dr. B. Shanthi, Principal Scientist & Principal Investigator coordinated the programme.
