ICAR-Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture (CIBA), Chennai, represented by its Director, ICAR-CIBA and Nature Environment and Wildlife Society (NEWS), an NGO based in Kolkata, represented by its Director, Mr. Milon Sinha signed for the knowledge partnership for brackishwater aquaculture technology demonstration and training at KRC of ICAR-CIBA, Kakdwip on 31st January, 2020.  Dr. Debasis De, Principal Scientist and Officer-in-Charge, KRC of ICAR-CIBA, in his introductory remarks briefed about the necessity of this partnership programme for development and demonstration of brackishwater aquaculture based livelihoods in the Sundarban. This MoU was made mainly to cover three objectives: 1. Transfer of CIBA developed technologies for livelihood improvement of Sundarban farmers, 2. Capacity building of stakeholders through training and 3. Consultancy service on evaluation of various project implemented by the NEWS.  Mr. Milan Sinha, MoU partner from NEWS highlighted about the activities of NEWS that include conservational livelihoods related to mangrove for Sundarban farmers and creation of alternative livelihoods through various foreign funded projects. He also conveyed appreciation for the initiatives of CIBA in extending partnership with private bodies, and expressed his confidence in bringing positive outcomes through the MoU, which would contribute significantly to the benefit of Sundarban farmers.
