ICAR-Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture (CIBA), Chennai, Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi and Mr.Suresh Nayak, A. R. Hatchery Pvt Ltd., Panichimedu, Marakkanam, Tamil Nadu, signed for the Knowledge partnership for the production of indigenous penaeid shrimps (viz. Indian white shrimp, Kuruma shrimp) seed production, at CIBA Head Quarters, Chennai on 18th January 2020. Dr. K.K.Vijayan, Director, CIBA, in his introductory remarks said the partnership program is a timely one, and would trigger the framing of indigenous shrimps, a step forward in the sustainable shrimp farming in the country. This model is useful in leveraging diverse expertise between government research institute and industry to address the current issues in brackishwater shrimp aquaculture. Dr C P Balasubramanian, Principal Scientist and Scientist in Charge, CCD briefed the initiatives of CIBA in the shrimp farming sector, and highlighted goals of this program that facilitate the future domestication and genetic improvement programs in native shrimps. Dr Panigrahi, Principal Scientist, CCD touched up on the previous collaborative work carried out with Ar Hatchery. Dr Shyne Anand gave the present production profile of the experimental shrimp hatchery and the experiences in the indicus seed production. Mr Suresh Naik, MOU partner expressed appreciation in the initiatives of CIBA in forging partnership with private players, and expressed confidence in bringing positives through the MOU, which would bring benefits to the shrimp farming sector. Earlier Dr P. K. Patil, Principal Scientist and Scientist- In-charge, ITMU welcomed the client, Mr.Suresh Nayak, and all the participants.
