ICAR – CIBA, Chennai conducted a five-day training programme on ‘Better management practices in shrimp seed production and growout farming’ from 2nd to 6th December 2019. Dr. K. K. Vijayan, Director, Inaugurated the training programme and briefed about the need for adopting better management practices for the sustainability of the shrimp farming sector. Seventeen trainees from different coastal states of the country attended the programme. Dr. C. P. Balasubramanian, SIC, Crustacean Culture Division, explained about the concept of the better management practices and its relevance in brackishwater sector. Dr. S. Kannappan, Principal scientist and training coordinator introduced overall content of the training programme and topics covered under the programme.

The training programme consisted both theoretical and practical sessions with special focus on the practical aspects of better management practices in shrimp aquaculture. As part of the training, a field visit was also arranged to a Penaeus vannamei farm at Kattur, Thiruvalluvar District, Tamil Nadu to expose the trainees to diversified shrimp farming systems. The valedictory session of the training programme was conducted on 6th December 2019. In the valedictory session, the trainees gave their feedback on the training programme and thereafter certificates were distributed to the trainees. The training programme was organized and coordinated by Crustacean Culture Division of CIBA.
