ICAR-CIBA, Chennai organised the live telecast of Launching of PM Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana and Pulses Self-Reliance Mission and inauguration and laying of foundation stone of more than 1100 projects of Agriculture Infrastructure Fund, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries and Food Processing Sector worth more than Rs. 42000 crores on 11th October, 2025 at its Muttukadu Experimental Station, Muttukadu, Chennai. About 159 fish farmers, fishermen Panchayat representatives and fishers including 42 fisher women participated in the programme.
During the occasion, the participants were explained on the improved Package of Practices for brackishwater aquaculture for the rabi season in the form of a folk media – Puppet show. Dr. Kuldeep K Lal Director, ICAR-CIBA outlined fisheries schemes being implemented under the Prime Minister Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) and Fisheries and Aquaculture Infrastructure Development Fund (FIDF) for the benefit of participating fish farmers. He explained about the Genetic Improvement Programme of Indian White Shrimp (Penaeus indicus) and the establishment of the Nucleus Breeding Centre under the PMMSY. He also highlighted the development of technology package on the Super Intensive Precision Natural Shrimp Farming under the PMMSY scheme of the Department of Fisheries, Govt. of India under the PMMSY programme. The participants viewed the online telecast of the launch of PM Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana and Pulses Self-Reliance Mission and other programmes by the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi at the National Agricultural Science Complex, New Delhi.
Subsequently, the scientists briefed about the National Surveillance System for Aquatic Diseases, Farmers Grievance Redressal Portal, GST Reduction Benefits, and other Flagship Schemes of Govt. of India for the benefit of participating fish farmers. Later the participants were taken for a ‘field visit’ which exposed them the brackishwater aquaculture-based livelihood programmes and the various research activities of ICAR-CIBA at its Muttukadu Experimental Station, Muttukadu, Chennai.
