ICAR-CIBA, Navsari Gujarat Research Centre of CIBA (NGRC) signed two MoU’s during the Pre-Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2021 held at Anand Agricultural University for two imperative purposes. The three-day national summit was organized by Agriculture, Farmers Welfare and Co-operation Department, Govt. of Gujarat during 14th-16th December 2021. During the event, several new educational institutions and centers of excellence were virtually inaugurated and many MoUs were signed between Gujarat state government and industry stakeholders and central institutes on agriculture, animal husbandry and fisheries.

ICAR-CIBA, Navsari Regional Centre, signed an MoU with the Department of Fisheries, Gujarat State Government, to obtain the 10 ha fish farmland at Matwad village, Navsari, for research and demonstration of brackishwater aquaculture. Mr. Satish Patel, IAS, Commissioner of Fisheries, Department of Fisheries, Govt. of Gujarat and Dr. K.P. Jithendran, Director, ICAR-CIBA, signed in the agreement.

Another MoU was signed between Gujarat Fish Farmers Producers Co-Op. Society, Ltd and CIBA-NGRC to provide technical support and critical inputs in brackishwater farming demonstrations in Gujarat to boost fish production and livelihood. Gujarat Fish Farmers Producers Co-Op. Society Ltd is the first FFPO in the Co-operative sector in the country, working on areas of skill development, self-reliance and employment generation of fish farmers and tribal communities. Witnessing the successful demonstration of improved brackishwater farming technologies by CIBA-NGRC at tribal villages of Matwad, Eroo and Singod, the Society decided to join hands with CIBA to replicate such similar projects in other regions the state. Dr. K.P. Jithendran, Director, ICAR-CIBA and Shri. Jayantilal P. Kewat, President, Gujarat Fish Farmers Producer Co-Op. Society Ltd signed the documents.

During the signing of MoU, Mr. Pankaj Patil, Scientist and Officer-In-Charge, Scientists of CIBA-NGRC, and senior officers from the Gujarat state fisheries department and Gujarat Fish Farmers Producers Co-Op. Society were present. ICAR-CIBA also took active participation in the three-day national summit exhibiting the various technologies, products and candidate species in the stall, to which about 1500 visitors paid attention.
