Designation : Senior Scientist & OIC AKMU
Discipline : Computer Applications in Agriculture
Division : Social Sciences Division
Specialization : ICT for brackishwater aquaculture developement
Research areas:
  • Modelling and stimulations.
  • Soft computing.
  • ICT in extension.
Brief profile:

After taking masters in Computer Science & Engineering in Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai [1997] and PhD in Information Technology and Engineering in VIT University, Vellore [2011], I am working in CIBA since 1999 on Computer Applications in Aquaculture. I currently work in division of Social Sciences in CIBA. I have worked on optimizing models and decision support tools using advanced techniques such as Mahalanobis Taguchi System, Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to the Ideal Solution, Analytical Hierarchy Process and fuzzy logic etc for aquaculture farming development. I have contributed for the development of (1) decision making models for identification and classification of optimal location models; (2) methodologies and procedures for evaluating ICT projects; (3) e-Learning modules for disseminating aquaculture information; (4) database management system in aquaculture for making an archive of the existing and evolving culture practices. I have interests in the development of (1) decision making models for shrimp farming operations under different intensification practices; (2) methodologies for assessing the impact of ICT projects; (3) digital dissemination system for knowledge management; (4) Knowledge Centers in coastal/tribal areas.

Current Research Projects (3 important ones):

NoTitle Funded By
1 Research and Developmental Interventions for Sustainable Brackishwater AquacultureInstitute
2Demonstration of improved culture technologies in shellfish and finfish aquaculture in GujaratInstitute
3Upgradation of breeding and culture technology of Indian white shrimp fenneropenaeus indicus through stock evaluation and culture demonstrationsNFDB

Director's Message...
Present day Indian shrimp farming almost entirely depends on aquaculture of exotic white shrimp, Penaeus vannamei .
Sole dependence on a single species cast doubt about the sustainability of Indian shrimp farming.
