Discipline : Aquaculture
Division : Finfish Culture Division
Specialization : Fish reproductive physiology & breeding
Research areas:
  • Breeding and culture of fish
  • Reproductive endocrinology
  • Stress physiology
Brief profile:

After taking masters in Aquaculture in 2002 and PhD in Aquaculture in 2008 I am working in CIBA since 2009 on Breeding and reproductive physiology of fish. I currently work in division of Fish Culture in KRC of CIBA. I have worked on breeding of cobia, scat and pearlspot, and culture of seabass; I have contributed to culture demonstration of seabass, broodstock maturation of milk fish, breeding of cobia and scat, and reproductive endocrinology of mullet. I have interests in breeding and reproductive endocrinology of commercially important brackishwater fishes of Sunderban area.

Current Research Projects (3 important ones):

NoTitle Funded By
1 Dissemination of technology on the seed production of Asian seabass (Lates calcarifer) and development, standardization and refinement of seed production technology for other commercially important brackishwater fishesInstitute
2Improvement and validation of brackishwater fish culture technologiesInstitute
3Stock characterization, captive breeding, seed production and culture of hilsa (Tenualosa ilisha)NFBSFARA

Recognitions (National & international level) :
  • Appreciation from DDG-Fisheries for the Aquaculture work in Navsari, Gujarat, India.
  • Appreciation from Director CIBA for the breeding of Cobia and Scat

Director's Message...
Present day Indian shrimp farming almost entirely depends on aquaculture of exotic white shrimp, Penaeus vannamei .
Sole dependence on a single species cast doubt about the sustainability of Indian shrimp farming.
