Designation : Scientist
Discipline : Fish and Fisheries Science
Division : Finfish Culture Division
Specialization : Fish and Fisheries Science
Research areas:
  • Captive Breeding of brackishwater finfish
  • Development of larval rearing protocols
  • Low volume cage culture
Brief profile:

After taking masters in Aquaculture (Inland) in 2002 and PhD in Aquaculture in 2007, I am working in CIBA since 2008 on Brackishwater Finfish Breeding and Aquaculture. I currently work in division of Finfish Culture Division. I have worked on the breeding and aquaculture of brackishwater finfish species of significance to brackishwater aquaculture sector. I have contributed to breeding of pearlspot Etroplus suratensis. As a part of a team, I am focused on captive breeding of finfish species -Grey Mullet, Milkfish and Asian seabass. I have interests in finfish breeding and seed production and developing aquaculture models for supporting livelihood.

Current Research Projects (3 important ones):

NoTitle Funded By
1 Development and refinement of finfish culture technologies for sustainable brackishwater aquaculture developmentInstitute
2Evaluation of reproductive biology, breeding, larval biology and seed production of candidate finfish species for brackishwater aquaculture developmentInstitute
3Development of Integrated Multi-trophic Aquaculture System in Sindhudurg District

Director's Message...
Present day Indian shrimp farming almost entirely depends on aquaculture of exotic white shrimp, Penaeus vannamei .
Sole dependence on a single species cast doubt about the sustainability of Indian shrimp farming.
