Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture (CIBA), Indian Council of Agricultural Research signed a MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) at Chennai today with Neer Aquaculture Exports Private Ltd (NAEPL), Navsari, Gujarat for consultancy services for shrimp hatchery establishment. The objective of this MoU is to provide technical advice and assistance for establishment of shrimp hatchery by NAEPL
West coast farmers incur an expense of 10-15 paise per seed (15% of the cost of seed) for airlifting quality seeds from Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh hatcheries which adds up to cost of production and reduces the farmers’ profit. Extreme temperature regimes and turbid coastal waters have been the impediments for hatchery development in Gujarat. The scientific team from CIBA has taken up this partnership with NAEPL for establishment of shrimp hatchery in Gujarat
NAEPL is a private limited company involved in the business of exporting of seafood. The company is also involved in shrimp farming activities since 1991 in Gujarat. Understanding the need for shrimp hatcheries in Gujarat, NAEPL came forward and signed MoU with CIBA for the consultancy services for setting up the shrimp hatchery in Gujarat.
Dr. K.K.Vijayan, Director CIBA, ICAR and Mr. Anil Bhai L.Patel, Director, NAEPL signed the MoU. Dr. C.Gopal, HoD, CCD and Dr.T.Ravisankar,SIC, ITM-BPD Unit were also present on the occasion. All the Scientific and technical staff and research scholars of CIBA attended the programme.
