The Swachh Bharat or Clean India Mission was conceived by the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Sri Narendra Modi to motivate and galvanise Indian citizens from all walks of life to achieve by 2019 Mahatma Gandhi's dream of a clean India. The Mission - visualized as the thanks giving offering of the Indian populace to the Father of the Nation on his 150th birth anniversary - envisages a mass upsurge for ensuring cleanliness all across the country and the gradual emergence of an unsullied India through the reorientation of individual and collective habits.
In response to the noble call, Swachh Bharat Mission, the Swachhta Campaign was conducted at ICAR-CIBA, Chennai and Kakawip Research Centre of CIBA, Kakawip, with due gravity and purposefulness on October 2, 2016. At 10.00 a.m. Dr.K.K.Vijayan, Director, ICAR-CIBA highlighted the important of cleanliness, sanitation and hygiene to the ICAR-CIBA personnel who gathered in large numbers around 100 participants at ICAR-CIBA headquarters, Chennai. After the event, the Director, scientists, officers, staff and research scholars of the Institute led the cleanliness drive in the Institute outside and inside campus at different locations including the public pathway.
At Kakawip Research Centre of CIBA, West Bengal, Dr. T. K. Ghoshal, Officer-in-Charge, narrated about the reason behind conducting this programme as a continuous activity, and briefed about the importance of sanitation and cleanliness at public places. As a part of the programme, all the scientists, officers, staff and research scholars took active part in cleaning the office premises, garage and adjoining area and farm area.
It was decided that the drive for cleanliness shall be continued throughout the year where each individual staff shall be required to dedicate at least 100 hours per annum for ensuring cleanliness in their working place, adoption villages, home and community. It was also decided that a comprehensive plan for realizing the Swachh Bharat Pakhwada, during 16-31 October 2016, objectives shall soon be framed and put into action.
