Distribution of toiletry, groceries, bedsheets and mats to the beneficiaries of Senjiamman village & Thonirevu village
Under Tribal Sub Plan and village adoption “Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav” programme, ICRA-CIBA Chennai has adopted 2 coastal villages, one for each programme viz., Senjiamman Nagar and Thonirevu, respectively, near Pulicat Lake in Tiruvallur dt of Tamil Nadu. In Senjiamman Nagar village there are about 50 households and Pulicat there are about 200 households. Senjiam village, Tirupalaivanam, is located on the banks of brackishwater creek which is flowing to Pulicat brackishwater lake.
The Senjiamman Nagar village was totally flooded with 5-6 ft. of water flowing from the nearby creek and neighbouring water bodies. The flood water entered into this village submerging all these tribal houses up to 5- 6 ft in the days of torrential rain and subsequent flooding during 2nd – 5th December 2015, causing loss of household and other articles. At Thonirevu village, the water level in Pulicat Lake raised and flooded into many houses in this village, causing loss and damages.
ICAR – CIBA initiated is distributing some flood relief material like toiletry items, bed sheet, mats, bleaching powder, groceries, food items and old clothes to the victims of the villages. Dr B.Shanthi and Dr V.S. Chandrasekaran, Nodal Scientists of the TSP and MGMG programme coordinated this event.
