After taking masters in Animal Nutrition in 1995 and PhD in Animal Nutrition in 1998 from National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal, Haryana, I entered in to ARS stream in 1998 and joined as Scientist (Animal Nutrition) in ICAR-Research Complex for NEH Region, Sikkim Centre, Tadong, Sikkim. I worked at Sikkim from 1998 to 2003 and after that I have been transferred to ICAR-Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture, Kakdwip Research Centre on public interest and since 2003 I am working in CIBA on Aqua nutrition. I have eighteen years’ research experience in the field of brackishwater aquaculture as a whole and finfish and shellfish nutrition and feed biotechnology in particular. I worked for development of cost effective feeds for brackishwater fish and shrimp through specific dietary nutrient optimization and alternative feed ingredients. I am also working on development of economically viable and sustainable approach to enhance brackishwater aquaculture production of shrimp and fishes in Sundarban. My research interest includes nutrient enrichment of unconventional plant ingredients through microbial fermentation, cost effective feed development for brackishwater polyculture, farm-made feed for brackishwater fishes, recycling of fish waste and its use as replacement of fishmeal and as plankton booster in aquaculture. My research area also includes captive broodstock development and culture of Hilsa shad (Tenualosa ilisha). I have developed and commercialized different technologies for enhancing production and profit in brackishwater aquaculture in India.
- Nutrient enrichment of feed ingredient through SSF
- Nutrient requirement and feed development of different finfish and shellfishes
- Use of unconventional feed ingredients for cost effective feed development
- Functional feed for larvae and broodstock
- Development of captive broodstock of Hilsa
