ICAR-CIBA joined hands with the team of KONABAY India Pvt. Ltd., to test the performance of shrimp seed lines under our super intensive natural shrimp farming system in the form of a MoU. Dr. K. P. Kumaraguru Vasagam, Principal Scientist, CIBA and team leader for this work program signed the MoU in the presence of Dr. Kuldeep Kumar Lal, Director ICAR-CIBA. He highlighted the importance of the outcome of the research trials which will give an option for farmers to choose the seed lines based on their requirements. Hendrix Genetics, global leader in multi-species breeding and genetics, formed a strategic joint venture partnership with Ms.Sapthagiri Hatcheries and established its new shrimp Breeding Multiplication Centre (BMC) in Srikakulam District in the Andhra Pradesh region of India to meet the growing demand for high-quality shrimp genetics in the Indian market. The Indian BMC is expertly managed by Kona Bay, a subsidiary of Hendrix Genetics.
Mr. Sunkaranam Hari Narayana Rao, Technical and Sales Manager of Konabay highlighted the significance of the MoU and the results will help the shrimp farming community. He further explained about their company’s initiatives in developing different lines and their interest with CIBA for collaborating work on these lines.
Dr. K. P. Kumaraguru Vasagam, Principal Scientist and team leader for this work program, briefed about the genesis of this MoU and the significant early leads obtained in the ongoing research trails. The heads of Divisions and scientists from Nutrition Genetics and Biotechnology Division participated in the event.
