Shri K.C. Devasenapathi, IAS, Member-Secretary, the Coastal Aquaculture Authority (CAA), Govt. of India visited ICAR-CIBA on 23.06.2025 to have a first-hand understanding of the research and development programmes being undertaken at CIBA. He visited the experimental units, hatcheries, feed mill and farm facilities at the Muttukadu Experimental Station of CIBA. During his interaction with the scientists’ team he urged the scientists to keep the CAA guidelines n mind while developing technologies for shrimp, finfish and crab farming. He also inaugurated a five-day training program, on “Advanced Aquaculture Practices for Resilient and Sustainable Development in Odisha,” being organized at ICAR-CIBA, Chennai, from 23 to 27 June 2025. Altogether 20 Assistant fisheries officers of Odisha are being trained on sustainable and resilient brackishwater aquaculture models for shrimp, crab, and fish farming.
Dr. Kuldeep Kumar Lal, Director, ICAR-CIBA provided insights into the importance of sustainable intensification and exploration of diversified farming systems such as seaweed, and crab farming into the major area of brackish water farming sector. During the visit a MoUs was singed MOU was signed between ICAR-CIBA and RS PCR Labs, Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh for the transfer of technology for Multiplex real-time PCR for detection and quantification of Vibrio harveyi and V. campbellii based upon TaqMan chemistry and which can be completed within an hour.
Dr. Akshsya Panigrahi, Principal Scientist and Course Director welcomed the dignitary and participants of the training course. The program ended with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr. R. Jayakumar, Officer-In- Charge, MES & KES of ICAR- CIBA, Muttukadu.
