ICAR-Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture (ICAR-CIBA) observed the World Environment Day on 5th June 2025 with the theme ‘Beat Plastic pollution’ under the leadership of the Director Dr.Kuldeep K Lal.  On this occasion, an awareness meeting was conducted at CIBA Head Quarters, Chennai and tree plantation programme in school premises of Madpur High School, at Paschim Medinipur by Dr. Debasis De, HRC of Kakdwip Research Centre of CIBA.   In the awareness meeting chief guest, Dr. P. Shanmugam, Chief Scientist (G), CSIR-Central Leather Research Institute, Chennai delivered a motivational speech on the individual’s role in the society for abatement of plastic pollution. He emphasised on the rules and regulations implemented to overcome the plastic use and the practices to be adopted to reduce the plastic pollution in different ecosystems. Previously, Dr. M.Muralidhar, Principal Scientist, AAHED, ICAR-CIBA coordinator of this programme narrated the importance of conducting World Environment Day. Dr. C.P.Balasubramanian, HoD, Crustacean Culture Division  & Director (I\c) in his presidential address emphasised the need for immediate actions for plastic free society. Dr. M. Kailasam, HoD, Fish Culture Division, Dr. K.Ambasankar, HoD, Nutrition, Genetics and Biotechnology Division, and Dr. M.S.Shekhar, HoD, Aquatic Animal Health and Environment Division shared their insightful thoughts on the significance of World Environment Day and perspectives on abatement of plastic pollution in aquaculture. The meeting ended with the vote of thanks by Dr. J.Ashok Kumar, Senior Scientist, NGBD.
