On 23rd September 2022, 41 students of first year Biochemistry, Ethiraj College for Women along with two faculty members visited the Muttukadu Experimental Station (MES) of ICAR-CIBA. On the same day, another batch of 47 students of first year from Department of Biotechnology, Microbiology & Nutrition, Apollo Arts and Science College, Madhavaram, Chennai, accompanied by three faculty members also visited MES. The objective of this exposure visit was to gain practical knowledge on the research activities of the institute so that students are motivated to take up research as career. Both the groups of students planted tree saplings at the official premises, as a part of the green campus initiative. Dr. D. Deboral Vimala, Principal Scientist, Social Sciences Division highlighted the research, farm and extension activities of the centre. Dr. J. Raymond Jani Angel, Scientist, Nutrition, Genetics and Biotechnology Division delivered a lecture on “Genomics Research in CIBA”. This was followed by visit to the fish and shrimp hatcheries and farm facilities. The research activities were explained by Shri. Dani Thomas, Scientist, Fish Culture Division and Shri. S. Rajamanickam, Senior Technical Officer, Crustacean Culture Division. Dr. D. Deboral Vimala, Principal Scientist, SSD & Shri. K.P. Sandeep, Scientist, NGBD &OIC-MES coordinated this visit.
