ICAR-Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture, Chennai celebrated the World Environment Day 2022 on 4th June. Dr. P. Krishnan, Director, Bay of Bengal Programme – Inter Governmental Organisation (BOBP-IGO), the Chief Guest highlighted that India set to become world’s second largest economy by 2050. Considering the growth, he felt that a lot of pressure will be there on the environment and stressed necessity of scientific backing to keep the environment safe. Dr. K.P. Jithendran, Director, ICAR-CIBA in the presidential address stressed the need to look into our contribution on keeping the environment better and understand its importance for safety of future generation. He emphasised on mitigation of pollution and eco-friendly sustainable development. Earlier, Dr. M. Muralidhar, Scientist In-charge, Environment Section, Aquatic Animal Health and Environment Division welcomed the Chief Guest and gathering, and explained the background of World Environment Day celebration and about this year theme ‘Only One Earth’.

To create awareness on protection and conservation of environment, ICAR-CIBA conducted quiz and extempore competitions on 1st June 2022. A large number of students from different colleges and research institutes in the city have participated. Dr. R. Saraswathy, Principal Scientist, ICAR-CIBA elaborated about the competitions and prizes were distributed to the winners. Dr. P. Kumararaja, Senior Scientist, ICAR-CIBA presented vote of thanks and the programme was moderated by Dr. Satheesha Avunje, Scientist, ICAR-CIBA.
