On 27th May 2022, 62 students of final year B.Sc. (Hons) Horticulture, College of Horticulture, Munirabad (Koppal), University of Horticultural Sciences, Bagalkot, Karnataka along with three faculty members visited the Muttukadu Experimental Station (MES) of ICAR-CIBA. On the same day, another batch of 50 students of B.Sc. Microbiology from Mazharululoom College, Ambur, Thirupattur district, Tamil Nadu, accompanied by three faculty members also visited MES. The objective of this exposure visit was to gain hands-on experience on the research activities of the institute so that students are motivated to take up research or entrepreneurship as career. Shri. K.P. Sandeep, Officer-in-Charge, MES coordinated the visit and highlighted the research and farm activities of the centre. As part of the green campus initiative, both the groups of students planted tree saplings at the institutional premises. This was followed by a visit to the shrimp, fish and crab hatcheries, feed mill and farm facilities. The research activities were explained by Shri. R. Aravind, Scientist, Crustacean Culture Division, Shri. S. Rajamanickam, Senior Technical Officer, CCD, Shri. G. Thiagarajan, Senior Technical Assistant, Fish Culture Division and Shri. T. Sivaramakrishnan, Nutrition, Genetics and Biotechnology Division. This visit provided a learning opportunity that matched the students’ natural inclination to know more about research and development in fisheries and aquaculture in general.
