Thirty five B.Tech (Biotechnology) students from the Department of Biotechnology, accompanied by two faculty members, from Jeppiaar Engineering College, Chennai visited Muttukadu Experimental Station of ICAR-CIBA on 25.05.2022. The objective of the visit was to visit the leading research institutes to gain practical experience. The visit was organized by Dr. D. Deboral Vimala, Principal Scientist, Social Sciences Division, who highlighted the various community development initiatives of CIBA in progress. To inculcate the importance of natural resources and ecosystem conservation the students were given opportunity to plant tree saplings in the campus. Shri. R. Aravind, Scientist, Shri. S. Rajamanickam, Senior Technical Officer, Crustacean Culture Division and Dr. T. Senthil Murugan, Principal Scientist, Fish Culture Division explained the breeding techniques and culture activities of shellfish and finfish. The students saw the facilities housed at Muttukadu experimental station, including shrimp, crab and finfish hatcheries, feed mill, farm facilities and algal culture unit. The students conveyed that they had a fruitful exposure on brackishwater aquaculture research and benefitted from the expertise of the CIBA team.
