On March 29, 2022, as a part of learning through exposure visit, 26 B.Tech students and two faculty members from Prathyusha Engineering College, Thiruvallur, and 17 students both under graduate and post- graduate studies from the Department of Economics, accompanied by one assistant lecturer from Loyola College, Chennai visited the Muttukadu Experimental Station (MES) of ICAR-CIBA. The visit commenced with an overall introduction by Dr D Deboral Vimala Principal Scientist, SSD about research and extension activities of CIBA and the facilities available in MES Muttukadu. Later the students visited various research activities being undertaken and observed the shrimp, finfish, mud crab hatcheries and the CIBA’s pilot scale feed mill. Shri. R. Aravind, Scientist CCD and Shri. S. Rajamanickam, Senior Technical officer, CCD imparted major technical aspects of shrimp and crab hatchery activities. Then, Dr. R. Subburaj, Assistant Chief Technical Officer, FCD explained about the hatchery activities and seed production aspects of finfishes. The feed mill activities and nutritional specialities of ‘Fish as Health Food’ were discussed in detail by Shri. E. Abilash, Young Professional II, NGBD of ICAR-CIBA. The students in their feedback about the exposure visit expressed that they have gained in-depth knowledge of the research activities of CIBA in brackishwater aquaculture.
