On 10th March 2022, as a part of celebrations under Bharat Ki Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav, ICAR-CIBA organized a National Campaign on “Opportunities for system diversification in brackishwater aquaculture” at Thoniveru village in Tiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu. About 72 participants including aqua farmers and farm women, students and staff from Madras Christian College, Chennai and scientists from CIBA have participated in the event. In her welcome address Dr. B. Shanthi, Principal Scientist, SSD and Nodal Officer of Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav events of ICAR-CIBA highlighted the importance of the yearlong celebrations and major agenda of the campaign.
Later, Dr. M. Jayanthi, SIC, CCD, Dr. M. Kailasam, SIC FCD, Dr. M. Makesh, PS, FCD, Dr. T. Senthil Murugan, PS, FCD and Shri. Biju Francis, Scientist, CCD had interactive discussions in detail on opportunities for system diversification in shellfish and finfish farming and clarified the farmers and students queries. Dr. B. Shanthi motivated women farmers by organization of events like rangoli making and sportive entertainment events and prizes were distributed to the winners. She also demonstrated preparation of delicious dishes and value added food items from fishes. The programme ended with vote of thanks proposal by Dr. T. Senthil Murugan, PS, FCD.
