ICAR-Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture (ICAR-CIBA), Chennai celebrated the 73rd Republic Day on 26 January 2022. At CIBA headquarters, Dr. K.P. Jithendran, Director, unfurled the national flag and greeted all the scientists and staff of CIBA. On his republic day address, he highlighted the importance of freedom and responsibilities. During the event, he congratulated Dr. S. Ayyappan, former Secretary, DARE & Director General, ICAR and Dr. M.L. Madan, former Deputy Director General (Animal Sciences), ICAR for being conferred upon the prestigious Civilian Awards, Padma Shri by Govt. of India. While remembering their immense contributions to the respective sectors, the Director said that it is a wonderful and proud moment for the entire ICAR family. Dr. Ayyappan brought lots of reforms in Fisheries sector and Institutions, for which we are indebted to him. He also urged scientists and staff on efficient utilization of budget in a time bound manner and briefed about the achievements of CIBA in the scientific sector and as well as in the initiatives of Central Government and ICAR. He also emphasized that the present time is challenging for the research sector due to the COVID-19 pandemic and all have to work hard to keep up the momentum of CIBA’s success in the brackishwater aquaculture sector in the days to come. Further, as part of the republic day celebration, certificates and prizes were distributed to the winners of the Selfie with Daughter contest conducted on National Girl Child Day event on 24 January 2022. The republic day was also celebrated with honour at the regional centres, Kakdwip Research Centre, Kakdwip (West Bengal), Navsari-Gujarat Research Centre (NGRC), Navsari (Gujarat) and Muttukadu Experimental Station, Muttukadu (Tamil Nadu). Kakdwip Research Centre, Kakdwip (West Bengal) of CIBA celebrated the 73rd Republic Day by unfurling the National Flag with the staff and their family members. Kakdwip Research Centre, KRC unit of CIBA recreation club organized its 2nd Annual sports involving all the staff and their family members on this occasion. Staff and family members of Navsari-Gujarat Centre also celebrated the Republic Day by unfurling the National Flag at its Brackishwater Aquaculture Research and Demonstration Farm, Matwad, Navsari.
