A six day’s training programme on “Farming and seed production technology of brackishwater fishes” was conducted from 18 to 23 December, 2021 at Kakdwip Research Centre (KRC) of ICAR-CIBA. The training programme was inaugurated by Dr. Debasis De SIC, KRC of CIBA and in his address he highlighted the major research achievements of KRC Kakdwip. A total of 27 participants consisted of farmers, entrepreneurs, aquaculture consultant and students from five districts of West Bengal and Odisha attended the training programme. The training programme covered both theory and practical classes on various aspect of fish breeding, nursery rearing and grow out culture methodology, live feed culture, feed formulation and feeding, soil-water quality management and health aspect. The trainees were provided hands on experience on the farming activities during practical classes. The training course included breeding of seabass, milkfish, moony fish, catfish, scat, pearl spot and orange chromide. In addition, trainees gained skill based knowledge on different brackishwater aquaculture based farming models viz., periphyton, polyculture, recirculatory aquaculture system and Integrated Multi-trophic Aquaculture (IMTA). They were also taken for an exposure visit to multi species fish breeding hatchery, Mohanpur. Dr. Prem Kumar Senior Scientist, Mrs. Babita Mandal, Scientist, Dr. T.K. Ghoshal, Principal Scientist, Dr. Debasis De Principal, Scientist, Dr. Sanjoy Das Principal Scientist and Dr. P Leesa Scientist coordinated the training programme.
